BRIGHTLIGHT: Health Economics
Health economics measures for the BRIGHTLIGHT study
BRIGHTLIGHT is a National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) funded study(RP-PG-1209-10013) evaluating whether specialist services for teenage cancer add value. Specialist teenage and young adult (TYA) cancer services were implemented in England & Wales in 2005. Anecdotally, professionals and patients say 'specialist care' is "better" for TYA cancer treatment. The BRIGHTLIGHT study has been carried out to evaluate how specialist services affect the success of treatment and how well young people return to normal life such as education or work after treatment.
Cost of Care Quesitonnaire
The Cost of Care questionnaire collates information incurred as a result of a cancer diagnosis and requires the respondent to reflect back to the point of diagnosis. It includes questions on travel costs, cost of medications and medical equipment, services that have been employed as a result of a cancer diagnosis and receipt of any benefits. This can be completed by the young person, or any nominated person who has access to this information.
Cost Record
The Cost Record prospectively records costs on a weekly basis incurred as a result of a cancer diagnosis. It includes questions on travel costs, cost of medications and medical equipment, services that have been employed as a result of a cancer diagnosis and receipt of any benefits. This can be completed by the young person, or any nominated person who has access to this information.
