Healthy Eating in Pregnacy

Nutrition during pregnancy has direct implications for health; not only for the expectant mother but also for the short and long-term health of the developing child. Pregnancy is often viewed as a particularly receptive period for women to engage with information about health-related behaviours to optimise the health of their unborn child.

The infographic portrays evidence-based dietary advice and summarises associated benefits for maternal health and infant development. The design and messages on the infographic were created to facilitate healthy conversations between midwives (and other health care professionals) and women by providing a resource and visual prompt to raise the topic of healthy eating and maternal weight management in a positive and engaging manner. A colourful and clear infographic can equip healthcare professionals to deliver this information at first entry (booking) to maternity services.

The support document provides details on the evidence which shaped the images and key recommendations included in the infographic. It also provides a brief overview of the content development strategy.
